Median Household Income
While median household income has increased, major racial disparities persist.
The median household income in King County for the period 2019-2023 was $122,148, which was higher than the Washington State overall average.
Trends: Median household incomes have been increasing over time for King County households, from $75,834 in 2014 to $120,824 in 2023. Similar trends in median income over this time period also occurred in Seattle and across Washington State households.
Race: Asian-headed ($151,389) and non-Hispanic white-headed ($128,016) households had higher incomes than households headed by American Indian/Alaska Native ($62,961), Black ($65,975), Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander ($83,087), Hispanic/Latino ($89,684) and Multiple Race ($105,227) residents. Asian and white-headed households earned twice the median income of American Indian/Alaska Native-headed households.
Age: For households headed by someone age 45-64 years, the medium income was $143,468, higher than other age groups. Households headed by someone age 15-24 years ($62,672) and 65 or older ($74,575) had median incomes which were lower than other age groups.
