Income disparity magnified in households with children. In April we learned that the wage gap between men and women in the greater Seattle area was bigger than in any major metropolitan area nationwide, with women earning 73 cents for every dollar earned by men. Last week the City of Seattle released a report showing that the city’s female employees earn 91 cents for every dollar earned by male employees. Communities Count found that in King County the disparity is even greater in households with children. Median income for women raising children without a husband was 58% of the income for men raising children without a wife.
