As with other forms of food assistance, the need for King County food banks has not returned to pre-recession levels.
The total number of King County residents who rely on government and/or charitable food programs is not known.
- One such program, King County Food Banks, had 2,432,836 million visits (new + returning clients) in 2014 and served over 1,083,000 households (new + returning). There were 277,668 new/unduplicated clients, representing 127,374 new households.
- 30.6% of the people served are children and 18.5% are seniors.
- These families used food bank services an average of 8.5 times during the year.
- The high number of visits, continuing into 2014, indicates a deep need among King County households.
