Use of child care for preschool-aged children was widespread across most demographic groups.

Parents depend on child care when they are at work and unable to care for their children at home. They seek affordable, high-quality child care that offers enriching experiences and convenience of scheduling and location.

In a 2011 countywide survey, 57% of children age 5 and under were in child care on a regularly scheduled basis.  59% of these children were in care for at least 25 hours a week. Use of scheduled child care for preschool-aged children did not vary by respondent’s age, race/ethnicity, gender, country of birth, or first language.
